Kainos shortlisted in Computing AI & Machine Learning Awards 2019

Kainos, a leading provider of digital services and platforms to clients in the public and private sectors around the world, has been shortlisted in the AI and Machine Learning Awards 2019.

The Computing AI & Machine Learning Awards are designed to recognise the best companies, individuals and projects operating in the AI space today and across every specialism, including security, ethics and data analysis. The awards also showcase innovation in the sector and highlight projects that are deserving of industry-wide praise.

Kainos is one of ten finalists in the Outstanding AI ML Project Award category for its work with DVSA. The project is an excellent example of private and public sector collaboration and innovation. It also highlights the benefits of leveraging Machine Learning (ML) techniques to achieve substantial business change and organisational strategic.

Kainos and DVSA collaborated to pioneer a predictive analytics tool that has revolutionised the identification of fraud and inadequate standards. The Risk Ratings algorithm can monitor individual MOT testers performance, considers changes to testing behaviour over time, and refreshes regularly, enabling accurate, up-to-date risk scoring. The system also incorporates an expanse of features such as test volumes, frequency, duration and pass rates, as well as disciplinary history.

DVSA's primary objective is to make Britain's roads safer, with the national MOT scheme forming a fundamental component in achieving this. With over 42 million MOT tests per year conducted across 24,000 garages, ensuring consistent MOT test quality is a colossal, ever-evolving challenge, and paramount to the scheme's success; DVSA need the capability to effectively identify fraudulent activity and poor quality.

The Kainos and DVSA teams are already expanding the Risk Ratings algorithm to include a 'predictive vehicle failure model'. This will fine-tune the approach further and will ultimately help the public better understand the likelihood of their vehicle passing / failing its MOT.

The Computing AI & Machine Learning Awards 2019 take place in London at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower on the 3rd July.
