Role Description

Designs and develops infrastructure components within an agile team that meets user needs and quality standards by,

  • Taking ownership for the automation, deployment and operation of significant components or layers of the infrastructure and application.
  • Works with Developers, Security Engineers and WebOps to deliver an operationally ready service.
  • Leads the design and automation of components or layers that are scalable, resilient, open, efficient, secure, and cost-effective.
  • Can recognize and flag issues outside area of own expertise or responsibility to managers and technical leads.
  • Ability to work effectively within high-pressure Production environments.
  • Produces commercially viable estimates for technical work.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior technical staff.
  • Complies with all confidentiality and non-disclosure policies and/or agreements and ensures security of information at all times

Skills

The following are required skills for Senior WebOps Engineers:

  • In-depth knowledge of configuring and managing infrastructure platforms with a particular focus on Linux based Operating Systems.
  • Experience of Virtualisation and Cloud technologies.
  • Experience of Configuration Management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible or Saltstack.
  • Experience of Continuous Delivery Pipelines and associated Continuous Integration tools.
  • Has coached and mentored junior technical staff.
  • Able to make effective decisions within fast-moving Agile delivery.
  • Able to simply and clearly communicate technical design in conversation, documentation and presentations.
  • Has an open attitude to sharing information.
  • Able to prioritise their own time and activities with minimal guidance.

The following are desirable skills:

  • Experience of Storage and Networking (including security).
  • Actively shares their thoughts and views on technology.
  • Has participated in technology communities.
  • Has contributed to open source projects.

While we will attempt to base you on projects near or at your contracted office location, you need to be willing to travel to client sites and spend time away during the week if it is required.
