Kainos Awarded Coveted Place on UK Cloud Awards Shortlist

London, UK 31 March 2016 Digital solutions provider Kainos has been shortlisted in the 'Best Public Sector Project' category for the UK Cloud Awards 2016. The recognition celebrates Kainos' work with the DVSA, moving the MOT testing service to Amazon Web Services (AWS) in just ten weeks. The awards, launched in 2014, showcase and celebrate the nation's leading Cloud suppliers, technologies and projects. The winners will be announced on 12 April in London. The Kainos award entry illustrates the ambitious and transformative nature of the DVSA MOT modernisation project, which was completed in September 2015. The previous mainframe-based MOT system was replaced with an online service and rolled-out to 22,700 garages across the UK. Since going live, the new service has captured up to 150,000 MOT tests every day and received user feedback from testers that it is simpler, quicker to use and benefits their businesses. The project had two ambitious objectives: reduce the operational cost of the MOT service by up to 50%; and to improve the service used by testers in garages around the country. Not only did Kainos meet these objectives, it helped the DVSA become the first government department to host a major operational service on AWS. The transition is now regarded as a case study for other public sector departments to follow. A more detailed description of this is here. Russell Sloan, Head of Government Digital at Kainos said: 'Being shortlisted for the 'best public sector project' is huge recognition for the teamwork and innovation that went into the DVSA's transformation. Kainos is synonymous with delivering smarter, faster, better solutions and the public sector is a key area for us to channel our energies. We look forward to hearing who wins but are delighted to be rated so highly against our industry peers.'
